Founded in 1978 in New York by Mr. And Mrs. Allen Skolnick, Southwind Farms purchased three yearlings, two of them fillies, in partnership with several other horseracing enthusiasts. A few years later, the fillies were retired from racing to become broodmares.

As the Skolnick’s broodmare band increased, and the dynamics of standardbred racing in New Jersey became evident, Mr. and Mrs. Skolnick looked for another farm in central New Jersey. They settled on a 235-acre former dairy farm near the village of Pennington. Its location between four major racetracks and several other large standardbred breeding farms in the area was very influential in their decision. Purchased in 1986, it has become known for its park-like setting, brilliant statues and breathtaking scenic views. The farm has been home to several exceptional standardbred sires such as Valley Victory, Artsplace, Malabar Man and Dancer's Victory. Currently only the leading standardbred pacing sire, Artsplace, stands in service at Southwind Farms.
